Breast Centre Beaumont Hospital

The Breast Centre provides Diagnostic facilities in a 1053m² new build development within the Beaumont Hospital Campus. The brief required specific connectivity and adjacencies between new and old departments while also creating a contemporary and innovative healthcare centre for breast cancer screening. The project objective was to create a world-class centre of excellence for the treatment of breast cancer.

Consideration of the narrow site prompted a design in the form of an elongated three-storey tower. The building encompasses three disjointed departments - the Symptomatic Breast Care Unit, Diagnostics, Evaluation and Clinical Trials Unit – into one singular volume. It incorporates eight consulting suites, five imaging rooms, a tomosynthesis 3D mammography with breast ultrasound equipment, a prosthesis and post mastectomy fitting unit and a dedicated counselling suite; the core of a fully integrated service.

The design embraces the requirement for open and intimate space, balancing advanced technical facilities with sympathetic, patient-centred areas, combining practicality and comfort. Mindful of and sensitive to the creation of an environment inspiring hope and giving reassurance. The first such centre in Ireland designed to comprehensively treat and advance breast cancer outcomes.
