Galway Hotel ‘Landmark’ Proposal
A master plan was prepared for a private client whose property fell within a proposed new urban centre close to Galway City, proposals were invited from the local authority to create a new ‘Landmark’ building, a gateway to Galway on the approach from Dublin.
The landmark building would take the form of a 200 bedroom hotel with social and serviced areas on the lower floors in the form of a rectangular 3 storey block with a roof garden, sitting above this would be a square tower block which houses the bedrooms, the top floors would have unrivaled views of Galway Bay.
The top floor would be proposed as a rooftop restaurant with a viewing platform. The bedroom block would cantilever over the lower block creating a dynamic set down covered entrance, guest and visitor parking would be in an underground car park. Reference was made to the Galway Clinic which is adjacent to the proposed site and height precedent taken from same but the new landmark building could be higher if the Architecture was a very high quality.
